Parkhurst Pirates Season Ends Early, But the Future is Bright.
Plus: Pirates awards nominees.
By Donnie McFarlane August 12, 2026 Melrose, Ontario
The Pirates' offence showed up in the final two innings of the playoff series rubber match against the Tyendinaga Cardinals on August 9th, cashing-in 4 out of 10 baserunners, but it wasn't enough to save the season. That game would end 11-5 for the baby blues, officially ending the season for Parkhurst.
It wasn't an upset on paper, the 4th seed did defeat the 5th seed, but the Cardinals were entering the series with only 4 wins in the last 13 games, compared to the Pirates' 4 wins in the last 6 games.
The Cardinals also seemed to have the Pirates' number all season. They took the regular season series with a 3-run win in May and a 4-run win in July, while the Pirates only managed a 1-run victory back in June. The Cardinals then took Game 1 by a score of 3-2, where one ump was heard commending the starting pitchers on both sides.
With the season on the line so early, Parkhurst came back swinging in Game 2 with a 14-4 victory in 6 innings that seemed to have turned the tide. Ultimately, back-to-back Pirates victories were not in the cards.
Perhaps it was a result was more attributable to the Pirates than their opponents.
In the regular season, Parkhurst proved their potential by being one of only two teams to take home a win against every team except the third-place Young Guns (which may have also been achieved too, had the final game of the season not been cancelled by the League in favour of moving up the playoff schedule).
Despite finding success against opponents of every calibre, the Pirates took just one regular season series: a 2-0 sweep against the winless Mudhens.
Whether the Parkhurst faithful decide to focus on the inconsistency or the sparks of greatness, it is clear that this Pirates squad has the potential to become a powerhouse in the next season or two.
Parkhurst had a number of standout players this season. For those who witnessed their performance this year, it seems obvious that at least a couple were deserving of awards for their achievements.
Nic Murray as Rookie of the Year (OPS 1.164 in 31 PA and 1.000 fielding pct in 44 innings at 1B) especially stands out.
So while they were overlooked by the rest of the league, here are the Parkhurst Pirates award nominees for 2026:

Well done to the entire Pirates crew. Everyone played an important role in the successes. Importantly, big strides were made in establishing a cohesive, supportive, tight-knit culture.
